The Effect of Gwakhyangjeongkisan and Palmijihwangtang on Rats with Acute Tubular Necrosis Induced by Gentamicin Sulfate



Abstract
This study is to investigate what effects Gwakhyangjeongkisan and Palmijihwangtang have on rats with acute tubular necrosis induced by gentamicin sulfate.
Therefore this research is focused on measuring ¨ç the concentrations of creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, total protein, albumin, sodium, potassium, chloride, as partate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase in the serum, ¨è the
concentration of
creatinine, sodium, potassium and chloride in the urine, ¨éintake water, urine volume and observing the histopathological changes.
@ES The results are summarized as follows;
@EN 1) As to Gwakhyangjeongkisan taking group, the in crease of the concentrations of blood urea nitrogen and potassium in the serum was significantly inhibited and the decrease of the concentrations of potassium in the urine was significantly
inhibited.
2) As to Palmijihwangtang taking group, the increase of the concentrations of creatinine, blood urea nitrogen and sodium in the serum was significantly inhibited and the decrease of the concentrations of albumin and sodium in the serum and
potassium in
the urine was significantly inhibited.
3) Histopathologically both in Gwakhyangjeongkisan and in Palmijihwangtang taking group, the recovery was significant in mitochondria, which indicated that the recovery was from the cell level. these results suggest that Gwakhyangjeongkisan and
Palmijihwangtang have a good effect on renal disorder by improving the decrease of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and the decrease of the reabsorption function of collecting tubule and by inhibiting the accumulation of renal toxic substances.
And
a
further study may be required on the micromorphologic change of proximal convoluted tubule.
